Order for Protection

Defending State and Federal Charges in Minnesota & Wisconsin

When a family or household member wants to keep someone away from them or their children, that person can petition for an OFP in family court. If you are served with a preliminary or Ex-Parte Order for Protection, you may request a hearing to challenge the OFP.

Q: Why would you do that?
A: If you do not contest the issuance of an OFP one will be issued against you for 2 years. Violation of an OFP can be a misdemeanor or a gross-misdemeanor. If if you have an OFP issued against you, you may be prohibited from possession of a firearm.
